Aggregating, I mean, my AP US teacher brought up an interesting point - the government has always abused and taken advantage of us, but suddenly when the internet is involved, everyone puts on their big kid underwear and wants to do something about it. I can agree with him there, but he believes that there are “more important” issues to deal with.. meanwhile, my IT teacher didn’t even know SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA existed so I have no excuse for him.

Well that’s true, but it cuts both ways: the Occupy movement has been the first time in my generation that white Americans are being made to give a shit on a visceral, physical level about police/corporate/state brutality and corruption. Now we’re being made to care about state-backed corporate information control. So that’s a good thing, but your teacher is right in that it points out the aw-shucks resignation of the American people towards literally everything else. And more than resignation, their enthusiastic acceptance.
