The US in particular also likes to underscore that “writing to your congressman” does a goddamn thing. That’s the major criticism leveled against Occupy: “Why are you in the street instead of on the sidewalk where the police told you to be? Why aren’t you doing exactly what that cop tells you to do? Why don’t you protest CORRECTLY and go home and write your congressman???? You’re doing it wrong!”
