   Cromartie Slime Mystery

   

   Does anyone have any idea why the Cromartie High School guys are always sucking on pencils or cigarettes with what appear to be tiny animate slimes on the ends?  The show has its own sort of interior syntax or logic, or else references other shows/tropes, but this slime thing is baffling.

   FAKE EDIT: turns out it’s a play on anime censorship, in which underaged characters are not allowed to be shown smoking.  Mystery solved.
