    I did this sketch right after Meet the Medic came out.  I’m posting it now because I plan to fix the wacky limbs and other issues and paint it up like I did with KritzKreme. …by the way, could someone submit KritzKreme to fortyeahtf2?  I’d feel like a complete scrub, submitting my own art.  It’s like editing your own Wikipedia entry or something…

    The Gay Agenda

    I got so sick of mapping out the same to-do lists over and over, that I finally did something about it.  I’ve never really been a calendar person, never got the hang of using iCal for anything but setting alarms, never liked “daybooks” or “planners” or anything like that.  And besides, those things are so covered in lines, you can’t draw in ‘em.

    All I want to know is:

    1. what day is it,
    2. what do I have to DO today,
    3. what do I have to GET today,
    4. and who do I have to REPLY to today.

    I want these things in list form, with boxes next to them so I don’t have to do anything so distasteful as put lines through them to indicate completion: the boxes are for X’s, one line for “partially complete”, an X for “complete” and a cross-out only in the case of nullification.

    I also want space to record a daily self-portrait, in various attitudes of triumph, passion, and beauty.  Finally, I want a horizontal space for minimalistic landscapes, spaceship designs, and blueprints for better planners.  And I don’t want every page pre-dated, because god knows I have plenty of days where planning anything is beyond me.

    Meet the Gay Agenda 1.0.

    The first version was 8.5 x 11” folded sheets, center stitch, softcover “saddle-stitched”.  I made some design mistakes that weren’t apparent to someone who doesn’t usually put together booklets, so the next edition had adjustments: the borderless printing cut off a little too much of the first T, making it more of a HE GAY AGENDA than a THE GAY AGENDA, and I printed the interior layout too close to its edges, meaning some got snipped off in the post-assemblage edge trim.  Here it is open flat:

    I wish I could say I did the extremely gay cover art, but it is something I saved from tf2chan last year, and the artist is currently unknown. Drop a comment if you have a name for me.

    The whole thing sat under some textbooks overnight to flatten out, but it still wasn’t real comfortable to use. Books you intend to write in really need a hard back cover to press against, and saddle stitching is just sort of halfassed, and always flops open, and I hate it. So I embarked on a new version the next day.

    It’s a top-opening, cardboard-bound booklet made with a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box. The top cover opens flat and tucks all the way behind the back cover for an extra-firm writing surface. The closing flap (the thing that says GAY AGENDA on it) needs some velcro or a snap attached to it, which I just haven’t had time to do yet, but it holds the whole thing firmly closed. The paper block is “perfect bound” with Gorilla Glue, as per this tutorial. I moved the interior layout elements down closer to the bottom edge of the page, to leave room for binding and bending at the top, glued edge. I also reduced the number of Reply lines and increased the number of Get lines.
